Search "clipping" on TikTok and you will meet an economy. Teenagers post 60-second videos they did not film, and claim those videos pay their rent. A lot of them use, or promote, Crayo AI. The tool is everywhere in that world. And almost everything written about it is affiliate content: the author earns a commission if you subscribe through their link. This review is the other kind. Every number below is sourced, every self-reported claim is labeled, and the ugly parts get the same space as the impressive ones.

The short version first. Crayo AI is a web app that generates faceless short videos from templates: Reddit stories, fake text conversations, split-screen clips over gameplay (crayo.ai). Its homepage claims 3.2M+ users and "billions of views", both self-reported. The business behind it is real and remarkable: bootstrapped from about $10,000 to a self-reported $600,000 per month (Starter Story). The catch is just as real: a 3.5 out of 5 "Average" Trustpilot score across 182 reviews at the time of writing, a strict no-refund policy, and recurring complaints about charges after cancellation (Trustpilot). We will unpack all of it.

What Crayo AI actually does

Crayo is a template machine for the faceless formats that flood TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Pick a format: Reddit story, fake iMessage thread, split-screen video, streamer clip, or ChatGPT-style Q&A video (crayo.ai). The app writes the script from your prompt, reads it with an AI voice, lays it over gameplay footage, and burns in subtitles in one of 15+ styles. Around that core sits a toolbox: AI images, voice changer, face swap, background remover, speech enhancer, vocal remover, and a video downloader.

One update matters if you have read older reviews. For most of its life, Crayo could not import a YouTube URL to clip an existing video, and reviewers listed that as a top limitation (Creator Economy Tools). That has changed on paper: the homepage now brands Crayo "The #1 Clipping Tool" and says it accepts "any file, or a YouTube/TikTok link" (crayo.ai). Early feedback on the newer auto-clip feature is rough; one Trustpilot reviewer calls it "awful" alongside complaints about lag and failed exports (Trustpilot). Know what it is not, too. Crayo is not a precision editor and not a growth coach. Cutting highlights from your own podcast with real control is OpusClip or CapCut territory. The founder story: a dead Snapchat empire and $600K a month

Crayo's origin is a platform-dependence story. Before Crayo, founder Daniel Bitton ran Snapchat content pages that he says reached about 10 million followers and six figures in monthly revenue. Then Snapchat changed its algorithm, and the income collapsed (The Creators AI). His response was to stop renting one algorithm and start selling shovels for all of them. A May 2025 newsletter repeated the figure: $600K per month, fully bootstrapped, a team of 2 to 3 (VentureRadar). Label all of this honestly: the numbers are self-reported, and the most recent public figures date from 2024 and 2025.

The growth playbook skipped ads almost entirely. Crayo grew through the clipping community itself: affiliates who earn commissions promoting it, video courses that teach faceless content and funnel students into the tool, and Bitton's personal brand (Starter Story). Today Crayo runs its own training funnels, including a "90-Day Brand Sprint" and live "AI Clippers" trainings (clipper.crayo.ai). Crayo AI pricing in 2026: what it actually costs

All prices below are at the time of writing (July 2026) and come from the official pricing page (crayo.ai/pricing). Watch the billing toggle. The site displays the cheaper yearly rates first, but yearly means paying 12 months upfront. Billed monthly, the same plans cost $19, $39, and $79 (FluxNote). Every tier ships the full toolset (split screen, Reddit videos, fake texts, voice changer, face swap, subtitle remover). You are paying for volume: workflow credits, export minutes, voiceover minutes, AI images, and storage from 25GB to 500GB (crayo.ai/pricing). What no tier includes: a free plan, a free trial, or a refund.

The Trustpilot problem: what 182 reviews actually say

Start with the aggregate. At the time of writing, Crayo holds a 3.5 out of 5 TrustScore on Trustpilot, rated "Average", across 182 reviews (Trustpilot). The score has wobbled between 3.2 and 3.7 in recent months as new reviews land. Earlier in the page's life, the picture was worse: when the review count passed 140, the average sat at 3 out of 5 with "nearly half" one-star reviews (Drew's Review). For a product claiming 3.2 million users, 182 reviews is a small, loud sample: a wall of five-star praise on one side, a dense one-star block on the other, and very little in between.

Charges after cancellation, and refunds that never come

This is the loudest complaint theme by far. Reviewers describe cancelling and getting billed anyway, with some blocking the charges through their bank (Trustpilot). One reviewer quoted in Creator Economy Tools' roundup of the page says they were "charged for a full year after attempting to cancel" (Creator Economy Tools). Another describes pressing cancel two days before renewal, being charged $40 anyway, and getting nowhere on a refund. Now recall the official policy: refunds are never issued, and "no further payments will be collected" after cancellation (crayo.ai/refund-policy). The distance between that sentence and these reports is the biggest red flag in this review. It is why independent reviewers now advise paying only with a card that has strong chargeback protection, or a virtual card you can freeze, and treating the tool "as experimental rather than business-critical" (Creator Economy Tools).

Unpaid affiliates and the five-star wall

The affiliate complaints sting because affiliates built Crayo. Reviews allege completed referrals with no payout: one affiliate writes that the company "refuse[s] to pay out the money" while support "replies with vague excuses" (Trustpilot). Then there is the rating itself. Several one-star reviewers allege the five-star wall is not organic; one flatly writes that Crayo "pays for fake trustpilot reviews" (Trustpilot). That is a reviewer allegation, not an adjudicated finding, and we could not verify it either way. For balance, the praise reads consistently too: "a game changer", "really easy to use", "the support team is amazing" (Trustpilot). The company replies to complaints, usually pointing to Discord or email support. One context note: organic Reddit discussion of Crayo is nearly nonexistent, and the search results are crowded with affiliate reviews and comparison pages owned by competitors. Strengths and limits: what you actually get

• Speed is the whole product. Idea to uploadable video in 2 to 3 minutes is the consistent report (FluxNote). No manual workflow comes close for these formats.
• Deep templates in its niches. For Reddit story, fake texts, and split screen, reviewers rate Crayo's templates deeper and more polished than generic video tools (FluxNote).
• One subscription replaces a stack. Voiceover, subtitles, backgrounds, and AI images in one place instead of three or four separate tools (Creator Economy Tools).
• Support is fast and human. The most common five-star theme, with staff thanked by name (Trustpilot).

• Voiceovers sound robotic and captions drift. Auto-captions miss complex phrases, and sync slips on fast narration (FluxNote).
• Everyone's videos look the same. Every subscriber gets the same templates. The Reddit-story format is visually commoditized. Without manual customization, you are camouflaged in the feed (FluxNote).
• Bugs fill the one-star pile. Lag, failed exports, silent renders, and a weak auto-clip feature all recur in reviews (Trustpilot).
• The automation stops earlier than advertised. A hands-on review by Codingem found the output "generic and repetitive" and called Crayo "not the shortcut it claims to be": fixing scripts and timing eats the minutes it saved (Codingem).

Crayo AI is legitimate software with hostile billing. The legitimate half: a real company with a domain registered in October 2023, a product that renders and delivers what it promises, revenue coverage across multiple independent outlets, and a ScamAdviser check that concludes the site is "legit and safe to use and not a scam website" (ScamAdviser). The hostile half: no trial, refunds refused "under any circumstances", recurring reports of charges after cancellation, and affiliate payout allegations (Trustpilot, crayo.ai/refund-policy). "Best alternative" depends on the job. Crayo generates faceless videos from prompts.
